On April 17, Iran's exiled Crown Prince, Prince Reza Pahlavi, along with his wife Yakima, embarked on their inaugural visit to Israel. The purpose of their visit was to participate in the annual Holocaust memorial ceremony. Upon arrival at the airport, the Iranian Crown Prince received a warm welcome from Intelligence Minister Gila Gamliel. Following his arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport, Pahlavi proceeded directly to the national Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony held at Yad Vashem.
